An International Community Tribute of Remembrance
To honor the millions of people killed around the world during the horrific chapter of colonization and the transatlantic slave trade.
The brutal killing of millions of innocent men, women, and children during centuries of colonization was wrong, unjust, and the effects are still visible.
Colonization Was The Global
Face of Racial Terrorism
The Impact of Extractive
Companies
Colonial Powers established multinational companies that exploited local resources and populations to expand their empires.
In extractive colonies, colonial empires focused less on establishing settlements and more on transferring as much wealth as possible to their homelands. Pollution from mining and drilling operations contaminated entire water sources, destroyed agricultural land, and negatively impacted local ecosystems. This environmental colonization disproportionately affected those who depended on these resources for survival. Large-scale extractive projects required many communities to relocate from their land, disrupted their traditional ways of life, and left them with little or no compensation. Exposure to hazardous substances, such as chemicals from mining operations, resulted in respiratory illnesses and other related health issues among indigenous communities. This led to social unrest and conflicts between the local communities and extractive companies.
World Colonization Memorial is a unique opportunity for multinational companies whose exploration and exploitation destroyed countless lives to honor the victims.
